Lake Saalachsee in Berchtesgaden

Culture hits History

Lake Saalachsee is an artificial reservoir in Kibbling, the local community of Schneizelreuth, also called "Kibblinger Sperre." The lake was created between 1910 and 1913 in order to move the hydroelectronic power plant at the Saalach. Nowadays the Deutsche Bahn uses this plant for an additional hydroelectronic power plant to create electricity for trains and private households. The new dam of 13 meters height and 130 m width is able to stow water up to 30 million cubic meters.
